1654. Rebecca’s world turns upside down when she learns her family must flee her beloved Recife, the only home she’s ever known. The adults whisper about danger and something called the Inquisition, but no one will tell her who or what it is and why it’s chasing them across an ocean. What begins as an unwanted journey quickly becomes the adventure of a lifetime. Attacked by pirates, stranded on a deserted island, and forced to survive with nothing but courage and hope, Rebecca and her family eventually reach the Dutch colony of New Amsterdam.
